My ABOS Story - Kim McNeil-Capers, Advocacy Chair

In 2015 Queens Library received two new mobile libraries. Within a few months they were on the road and I was scheduling the mobile libraries all over Queens. Our first event was a school. I felt like the captain of a ship when the children boarded on the bus. There were  so many children and so much excitement that a few children left the buses with books without checking them out.

That  summer the outreach team decided to do a seven consecutive day 21 stop tour. The mobile library made a stop in every elected officials community district.This included schools, faith based institutions, cultural centers, beaches, parks, shopping malls, shelters, day care centers and much more. The tour reached over 3,580 people who learned about Queens Libraries programs and services.

In 2015 I found ABOS. Finally, I found an association that provided great networking  and evidence based practices about outreach & bookmobile services. After joining in 2015 , I became a board member and recruited several colleagues to join.

ABOS offers years of experience with the commitment of providing members a helping hand in doing outreach and mobile library services that will last a lifetime.
